ts and tʃ are both affricates: ts is an alveolar affricate and tʃ is postalveolar. As I said in class, affricates are distinguished by being [+delayed release] and if you check the chapter on distinctive features, you'll see that there is a feature to distinguish [s] and [ʃ], which will also distinguish the two affricates.
